FAQ

What time do I need to be at the Ball?

Doors for VIP attendees are at 7:00 PM. Doors for General Admission attendees are at 8:00 PM. If you have purchased a ticket, you WILL get into the event. There is no need to line up early. The weather will likely be quite cold, and our venue doesn’t have sufficient space to keep everyone warm before the gates open. If you’re looking for a place to wait until the SwashBall gates open, the Loyal Legion will be open all evening and is located just across the street from the Melody Ballroom.


I bought a ticket! Will there be a will-call? Do I need to bring my ticket?

You DO need to bring your ticket (either printed or on your smartphone) with you to the event. If you bought/received a ticket for this event (VIP or GA), you should have received that ticket via email. Bring your ticket as we do NOT have a “will-call” or gate list!

IMPORTANT VIP CHECK-IN INFO:
If you have purchased a VIP table package, you will receive a separate email that includes individual tickets for your each seat at your table.  Please ensure that every attendee at your table has an individual ticket! This will allow each table attendee to arrive and check-in at the Ball individually. Once you arrive, your ticket will be scanned and you will receive your packet of VIP tokens and swag. Huzzah!


I still haven’t purchased my ticket. What are my options?

Advance ticket sales will end on Saturday, November 11th, 2016 at noon PST. General Admission tickets will be sold at the door on Saturday, starting at 8:00pm for a cost of $30 each. Please note that amounts of available tickets may be limited. VIP tickets are available for pre-purchase only and are very limited. Tickets are on sale now at Ticket Tomato.


I’m in town early! Are pirates gathering someplace on Friday for a warmup party?

Mate, we’ve got you covered! We’ve partnered with our friends at Cruzan Rum and the Bit House Saloon to present an epic pre-party on Friday, 11/11!

Prepare for The 2016 Swashbuckler’s Ball with a rare performance by legendary Portland celt-rock group Amadan! Enjoy an evening of piratical music, grog from Cruzan Rum, and gear up for a glorious SwashBall weekend!

For more than 16 years, Amadan has consistently orchestrated chaos out of throngs of expectant fans. Having cut their teeth on punk rock and traditional Irish music, Amadan’s many albums of searing, upbeat, and complex originals and energetic stage presence make the band a live favorite.

Plus a special opening performance from Portland’s own THE ORNERY!

THE ORNERY: one acoustic guitar plus one electric bass equals an energetic folk duo singing songs of satire and biting wit from the Pacific NW

Don’t have a SwashBall ticket yet? No problem! This event is open to everyone! We’ll also be selling discounted tickets to The 2016 Swashbuckler’s Ball at the pre-party, in case you haven’t yet secured your pass to Portland’s grand pirate prom!

Does the venue accept credit cards?

Credit cards will be accepted for ticket sales at the front gate as well as for bar and raffle ticket purchases.


Where is the Ball this year?

The Swashbuckler’s Ball is being held at the Melody Ballroom located at 615 SE Alder St.
Portland, Oregon.


Can I wear a piratical weapon as part of my costume?

Piratical weapons as part of your costume are welcome. Replica firearms must not be loaded and there is no black powder allowed on the premises in any form. All blades will be peace-tied by security upon entrance to the Ball. A drawn weapon of any kind will result in immediate expulsion from the event, with no refund.


Does the venue have wheelchair/handicap access?

The Melody Ballroom utilizes a stair climbing machine to assist those with handicaps to access the ballroom.


Will there be a coat check?

Yes, there will be a coat check on site. The cost of checking your coat is $1. Exact change is appreciated!


Will you have a photo booth this year?

Yes! We are pleased to have Quixotic Images Photography running our photo booth this year. Photo prints and digital downloads will be available for purchase from the booth.


Is there an age restriction for this event?

The Swashbuckler’s Ball is a 21 and over event.


Is there food?

Each VIP attendee will have access to a tasty buffet, served up by the Melody Ballroom.

The VIP buffet includes the following food items:
– BBQ Pulled Chicken Sliders
– Spanakopita
– Assorted Sausages & Mustards
– Beans & Rice
– Veggies with Ranch Dressing
– Mezza platter with Hummus, Pita, Feta, Kalamata Olives, Cucumber
– Eggrolls

There will NOT be vended food available for purchase at this year’s event. Instead, the Melody Ballroom is providing a limited selection of snacks for all attendees to enjoy. However, if you have not purchased a VIP ticket, we strongly recommend that you eat dinner before coming to the Ball!


A Note About Safety and Security

The management and staff of the Swashbuckler’s Ball makes every attempt to provide a safe secure environment for your “grand night out”. However, individuals are reminded that they are responsible for all personal items brought to the event. Personal valuables should not be left on tables or in the seating areas at any time. Should you need to a place to secure an item, please use the coat check, or simply leave the item at home.
